ten day rule in radiology
The "10-day rule" recommends that, in women with child bearing age, non-urgent x ray investigations, x-ray investigations that irradiate the pelvic part, menstruate them. The first 10 days of the cycle should be limited.
Otake and Schull first showed that if the radiation is placed on the maternal abdomen (mother's abdomen) 8 to 15 weeks after conception, the development of the child's forebrain stops and the mantle asymmetry develops.
The time of 10 days is the time where the developing fitness is the most likely to cause harm because at this time there is the least possibility of conception.
This rule is not applicable for the following patients -:
1. If the woman has denied recent sexual intercourse.
2. If the woman is on the same cycle at the same time.
3. If the woman has been taking oral contraceptive pills (contraceptive pills) for the last 3 months and she is satisfied that they are effective.
4. If the woman has been engaged with intra-uterine contraceptive device (Copper -T) for the last 3 months and she is satisfied that they are effective.
5. Women who had sterlized.
