Position of patient and cassette
Patient को x-ray table पर किसी तरफ सुलाया जाता हैं। यदि यहाँ कोई scoliosis का घुमाव हो तो उचित lateral position के लिए इस घुमाव की concavity ( अवतलता ) को x-ray tube की तरफ रखते है। भुजाओं को उठाकर patient के head के सामने pillow पर रखना चाहिए। stability के लिए knees तथा hips को flex करते है। spine के centre से गुजरने वाला coronal plane Bucky की midline के अनुरूप लम्बवत होना चाहिए। vertebral column को film के समांतर लाने की सहायता के लिए non-opaque pad को waist तथा knees के नीचे रखते हैं । cassette को lower costal margin के level पर centred करते है। patient की सांस रोककर exposure देते है । यह projection erect position में भी किया जा सकता है।
Direction and centring of the x-ray beam
Central ray को spinous process की line के लम्बवत तथा lower costal margin के level पर third lumbar spinous process के 7.5 cm anterior की तरफ देते है।
